Did your children soak it in Ribena?

Try rebooting. If that doesn't work the keyboard may be knackered and you need to buy another. Do you have another one you could borrow to try to see if it's a hardware problem or not?

Maybe it is a bad french accent keyboard

I agree reboot and if possible try another keyboard.

Here is how to open the on screen keyboard so you can type by clicking it for now.

As has been said shaking the keyboard upside down may help. you really need a new one from the sound of it.

Try tapping each of the special keys ctrl shift alt etc in case one is stuck down.

You might look in control panel - keyboard in case you have somehow selected a different kind of keyboard layout, though if that were the case the keys would be working but giving you the wrong letters.

oh my

Are there any particular keys that aren't working? Or are different keys working on two different keyboards?

Maybe a connection problem, much more difficult with laptops with the inbuilt stuff.

Can you go get a USB keyboard in the meantime, just to make it usable?

And if you have your keyboard replaced on your laptop, and it didn't solve the problem can you take it back to them?

am pmsl hobb = it is very farking funny!!
hum, just one idea that I don't suggest you try yourself unless you are very computer literate - your BIOS might be wrong. My DH bought a new laptop (with Vista) recently and the bloody number pad didn't work, nor the touch pad (he had an additional mouse) - and worse still, if you tried to use the number pad, it locked out the rest of the keyboard. It was possible to reboot the keyboard by re-installing the driver for it, but not the touchpad etc. and every time we accidentally touched the number pad, off went the keyboard again.

So we sent it back to HP and they returned it saying there was nothing wrong with it BUT they had "upgraded the BIOS" i.e. it was set up wrong.

Failing that, juice/crumbs etc under the keys is always a good option... try vacuuming the keyboard. And check all the weird function keys, make sure none of them are jammed down.

Good luck!

I once had a strange thing happen to my keyboard and it was due to the little blue functions. Left side of the keyboard, right at the bottom is a key with blue writing, on mine it says Fn but that is a French keyboard so not sure if the English keyboard is the same.

Try pressign that and the keys with blue letters. I also have little orange numbers, not sure what they do.
