How to create an image based e-mail ?

I don't really know what they're called, but I want to produce something like this that you send as an e-mail allowing customers to click through to your website.

i can use adobe indesign to create pdfs, but am looking for some pointers to how i create it embedded in an e-mail rather than e-mailing out a pdf as an attachment.

Can anyone
a) point me in the direction of a good website based template
b) recommend a course
c) teach me (willing to pay!) am based Twickenham.

The e-mail will need to be done as HTML rather than plain text. You may find an option in your e-mail software to set the format of the e-mail it creates.

I use a mailing service to send out e-mails to clients. See some of their example templates: Aweber Email Templates

I would avoid having an e-mail containing just an image, as in my view it is likely to trigger spam filters. You should aim to have text as well, plus also a text-only version.
