A mains lead is different to an adaptor. You usually need an adaptor if the camcorder was bought overseas and you need to use it in the UK, eg if it had an American plug you would need an adaptor to fit it in a UK plug socket.

That's a mains lead, so you could use it if you had lost yours.

(Does that make any sense at all?!)

Thank you for replying Sidge!

THe battery charger we originally had, you could connect it to the camcorder and then to the mains instead of using the battery. The charger broke and the new one we got doesn't do that so I want something that will connect the camcorder to the mains wall socket. Is this suitable for that?

That is probably not the correct thing. If what you had before had a little black box between the wall and the camcorder, then just getting a cable will not do it. You need to figure out what voltage needs to go into your camcorder. This will be written either on the side of the camcorder, near where you plug something in, or in your manual (or search on the website of the manufacturer of the camcorder). It will say something like 120-240v (ok to just use cable above) OR it will say something like 12v or 9v (then need transformer to transform the 240v into the 12v or 9v).
By the way, there are people on EBAY selling transformers/batter chargers for much less than in the stores.

i had this problem withmy laptop adapter. do you still have the broken one?

there will be a serial/product number on it. google that number and it will bring up exactly what you need. you need to make sure you buy the exact right one as sofia says they will need to be the right input/output and they will need to have the right plug on the end of it so that it will fit into your camcorder.
