computer help - do you kow what this message means ..........

any help would be great

my friend has been having problems shutting her computer down for a week or so. last night this message come up:-

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

UNMOUNTABLE BOOK VOLUME

can anyone tell me what she needs to do. dont want to call someone out without having a clue whats wrong.

Have asked dh (is a software engineer) and he says that you must mean Unmountable Boot Volume.

The problem is that windows thinks there is something wrong with the hard drive and so can't boot up. If she searches for UBV on google on your computer it will tell you how to fix it.

thanks so much for your help. if she hasnt got the disc (lost it) where can we get a copy from.

ive got a dell computer as well - if i find mine can she use it. is it just a window xp disc?

Yeah dh says she can use yours. it should be a windows xp installation disc. its says what to do on the link. glad to help!
