Longevity of Raspberry Pis

Picking up a discussion we had in the office.

How long do Raspberry Pis last in the hands of their intended young audience? All of us who use them to do jobs around the house find that the memory cards wear out, and we all have ad hoc processes to deal with this. And that's before the usual litany of blowing them up by attaching the wrong stuff to the gpio pins, shearing off the power connector, etc, etc.

So if your children have been bought Pis, are they still working 6/12/18 months later?
