printer not printing from netbook

This is driving me crazy as I have stuff I really need to print
My printer ran out of ink. I bought non kodak stuff and my netbook said 'communication error'
I bought kodak stuff and it said the same
I bought a new usb cable and hooray I printed one letter and now it is back to saying communication error
Any ideas?

Kodak - Printer Communication Error - might help.

You have not said: What Printer, What operating system. Need to know those to start narrowing down possibilities.

Do you only have one USB port on the netbook? If not, try a different port.

Printer problems are horribly difficult to resolve at times. Sometimes it fixes itself and you have no idea why.
