Hi there
when I go on some sites eg ebay or to download my payslip the sign comes up "internet explorer has stopped working press cancel to close" or similar wording.
Have tried the steps given through googling but nothing works.

Anyone solved this problem I would be very greatful for any tips as driving me mad and effecting dds school work as she cant remain on some sites.

Thanks!

when I installed firefox I couldn't even get a homepage to come up - just kept saying google/ amazon.co.uk?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 will not connect :-( so had to uninstall it.

nb I keep both Chrome and IE on my system, as there are a very few websites that don't work properly in Chrome - yes, I am looking at you, GirlguidingUK...

Try to download MBAM and run it, or run your usual antivirus check. Then download and run CCleaner to clear any possible residue before installing Firefox.

Sorry it didn't work ... that was it in terms of my computer knowledge :( ... my next suggestions would be slamming the lid shut... shouting at it ... and generally losing all 'computer control' Wishing you the best with solving your problem ....

I have no idea if this is relevant or helpful in any way but my PC at work does this if I'm trying to print a PDF file. I have to save the file into my personal folder and print from there. It works then.

Hm. Have you ever had IE working properly, or is this a new problem?

I would say there is probably something on your computer that is blocking you, or possibly a problem with the speed of your connection.

Things to try: are you able to go onto a website to check your internet speed? If that is slower than it should be it might be that you can download "ordinary pages" but not one with a lot more content...

Have you tried scanning your system for viruses?

You could try temporarily turning off any firewall/anti virus software and seeing if that makes a difference.

Do you have any parental control software on there?

What version of windows are you running?

I think you may have an infection. When DBro had one my advice to him was to download either MBAM or Superantispyware to a USB drive on a clean pc, switch yours on and press F8, which gives you start up options. Choose Safe with the direction keys and go to start.

Once it's started up insert the USB stick and follow the on screen instructions and let the program run to completion. Then download CCleaner to remove any unwanted residue. Good luck. :)

If its windows 8,F8 wont get you into safe mode ,thats why I need to know what version of windows is running.
