dh, dcs and I are planning to 'drop out' for 6 months and take our motorhome round Europe. We want to set up a blog of our travels and post photos and videos for family and friends to keep track of us. Between us we have an original ipad, a ipod classic ( 5 years old) a couple of mobile phones, camera and camcorder. We are stumped as to which gadgets we need to take with us, or whether we need new ones.
We cannot upload photos and videos from the cameras without access to a computer with internet access. Are we going to be able to do that anywhere?

Do we just ditch everything and get a new ipad which covers everything? We could get a 16g one with tesco clubcard vouchers!

Going round in circles- advice needed, please.

Can't you transfer the photos and videos to the iPad then use free wifi in cafes and so on? That's what I did while interrailing round Europe last summer.

Mine is an iPad 2, by the way, but I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to do the same thing with an original iPad - You just need the camera connection kit.

But I can't connect my camera and camcorder to the ipad while we are away, can I? All photos have to be put onto my pc into itunes, then synced with the ipad. I don't see how to get new photos of my travels onto the pad while away from the home pc.
I get the use of free wifi- lots of campsites have wifi as well.

Glad to be of service! They would have told you about it if you'd asked in an Apple store too.

Well, I'm sure they would, but they're all so young, hip and trendy in there, and I'm not! And munsnet is nearer! Thanks.

Holy crap, Apple charge you £20 to be able to transfer your photos over?? What a rip off!

What mobile phones do you have? Do they have SD card slots and WiFi? If so, you could transfer your pics from the camera to the phone on the memory card and then upload to Dropbox or similar over WiFi from where you can then do with them whatever you like..... And save yourself £20 on bit of plastic that's not even compatible with the latest iPads!
