Mobile contract

Got a new phone yesterday, first time on a contract. From a shop, not the phone network (Orange) itself.

Was told would take a couple of hours to activate, but still no connection to the network.
When I first phoned Orange last night they said connection would be very soon.
When I phoned them today they'd changed that to 48 hours and after that take it back to the shop, as there's nothing they can do about it.

Never had a phone on contract before - is this kind of delay usual?

Have you checked whether you need to activate the SIM? Sometimes you need to go online or phone then to activate before the SIM works and they don't always tell you this.

I tried that through the Orange website but it said the number wasn't related to any Orange phone.

The man last night said I will receive a text message which can then be used to activate.
I was just wondering how long this usually takes to process as I've never done a contract before.

It's probably standard practice and I am just being impatient grin
