Aargh - my sandpit's an ant's nest!

What can I do? It's ALIVE with ants and RIDDLED with eggs.

It's one of those Little Tikes plastic frog sandpits (so a reasonable size...). My 15 mo likes to eat the sand; I'm not keen on him eating the ants' eggs. How can I get rid? Should I just put the sand in a corner of the garden, let the ants get on with it and get new sand for the pit?

Hayalp Hayalp!

yes it would be easier to refill it with fresh sand. IMO

I'd agree with the fresh sand too. If you wanted to get rid of the ants before you chuck the old sand you could poor boiling water over the nest

Whatever you do it may well be worth you moving the sand pit to a different location for a while. IME if you leave it where it is you'll get another nest in there.

Fresh sand yes. Boiling water - yes!

The ants will have left a scent trail to the sandpit and will just follow it back there.

Thanks. Thought as much. Will ZAP them. Once we've looked at it plenty in nature study!
