Weeds are up. I've put some "biologically safe" weed killer on & am waiting for something to happen but just see more & more dandilions popping up. When should I scarify? Plant new seed? Fertilise? Please advise.

I'd scarify now, then prong it with a garden fork all over (better if you can get one of those rotary doodahs that actually removes a core of earth but a garden fork will do), scatter lawn sand to fill the bore holes (great for aeration of roots and water penetration). How long ago did you apply the weed killer? They can take a couple of weeks to see any results and may need repeat application. In the mean time, hack off dandelions before they seed. As for seeding the lawn, I believe it's a bit too early, yet. You could fertilize but I'd do it after scarification and after giving the weedkiller a 2-3 week window to work.

At the end of the day, lawns are THE most difficult thing to get and keep perfect though 95% of us have them!

Final thought, sad though it is, it may need watering. At EASTER?? Here in Hampshire we haven't seen actual rain in weeks now.

Hi Miljee. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I applied the weed killer last Wednesday but the dandilions continue to show their cheeky yellow faces, which I have been mercilessly pulling off. Dh cut the grass yesterday (Saturday). My neighbor said to scarify now, she lent me her scarifier but I've heard that scarifying can worsen the weed problem if done before the weeds are dead. So do I wait for them to die or go ahead now & hope for the best?
Thanks.
