Bulbs as a condolence gift

My lovely kind neighbour has died very suddenly. I would like to show my respects and sadness with a card to his wife. I know flowers are generally over given at these times but I know they both enjoy(ed) their garden. Are there any nice bulbs I could get to be planted soonish?

Gosh, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I wouldn't buy something that requires any work right now - people can really struggle with just the basics after a bereavement, and anything that requires extra attention or labour may get ignored, or become an additional source of stress. If they did the garden together as a couple, it may also be quite emotional for the surviving spouse to continue to garden alone.

What about something like an orchid that can be enjoyed indoors and is relatively hassle-free?
