Have I missed the pruning window? Roses

Inexpert gardener but love my roses. Following the advice of colleague about 25 years ago, have always done a very light end Autumn prune to prevent windrock and a brutal prune in end March/April BUT not until a frost free period.

The roses have a shedfuls of growth due to the mild January but I just didn't get around to pruning, thinking "I'll do it in April". Now it's as frosty as buggery at night . . .

Can I have a hack next week (ie heading into May) or have I missed the boat?
Thanks!

You can still give them a second pruning.
Leaving the new young shoots that have grown over winter will result in weaker growth and fewer flowers. Go for it!

Thanks very much for that. There are indeed absolutely loads of juicy new shoots; I shall make with the secateurs Smile

this year has been very weird so I only pruned once in march.
but the roses are in a sheltered spot and already have plenty of flower buds.
