costs for gardener?

Anyone got any idea re hourly rate for garden help in south east? Am looking for someone to do 3 or 4 hrs a week, including mowing. Was going to put ad in local shop offering £10/hr, does that seem about right or will it be laughed at?

Are there no other ads for help wanted that you could get the info off, or perhaps phone a gardening company and see what their rates are.

Not sure, but Im in Kent and I pay £12.50 ph and she pays her tax out of that. She used to work for a gardening company I used which charges an extortionate rate of £21ph inc VAT!!! Mowing is at least £10 ph around here. One reason for the costs is that the DWP monitors small ads for benefit fraudsters (cleaners and gardeners) so most people charge enough to do a self employed thingy. Also I would NOT put my own ad up as that is a classic way to attract undesirables to your house and garden - I'm not joking!!! Look in your local small ads free sheet - you should find someone in that who is advertising, and if they are a bone fide gardener they will have at least some of their own equipment as well. I charge £8 an hour ,but I am in the Midlands.

i charge 12 per hour, midlands.... depends what you want them to do... i mainly look after the plants and beds rather than the heavy donkey work... not so many people do this
