That's it really.

Can/do they?

It would be difficult due to the amount of meetings/ training/contacts etc. I've known people work part time & people who work full time taking respite placements at weekends.

Thanks, HJ. I thought as much.

Have you looked into allowances /part time work?

I would consider moving to PT work, but not for a while. We really couldn't afford it now tbh.

I've been looking into Family Link; I think that might be a good move for us.

I asked at Information Evening at my LA and the social worker said they expect at least one person to not be working for short-term placements, but for long-term 6 years old+ children they will also consider working foster carers.

I'd say there's no harm in asking your LA.

What is Family Link? I would be interested to know about options that are short of actual fostering (for the same reasons as the OP, I think).

As Glenshee says, it's worth talking to your LA. My husband and I both work full time and we've been fostering for over 6 years. I work in a school, which obviously makes it possible. We only foster school age children, but it is possible to foster and work full time.

THank you, Machakos, I will. I do think we need to wait a while before going for full-on fostering.

I really like the idea of Family Link. DP is up for it, and I think ds would enjoy it too.

We have supported lodgings carers who do 16-21 in our LA, you can do this and work f/t as the young people should be in ETE and be fairly responsible. We even have a single f/t working carer.
