Do I need savings?

Hi,

I just read on another board that someone was turned down by an agency because she didn't have a years worth of savings in the bank, just in case she dodn't have a placement.

Is this always the case??

I don't work just now as I've been caring foe my dsabled child and with the number of appointments etc having a job was just not practical.

On that basis I def don't have much savings ( although could ask Parents in law to put some in for the process!! That would be naughty Blush)

I figure that we manage on what is coing in just now so if we didn't have a placement then we would just manage as we do now!!

Any experiences please??

xx

Thanks. Hope it was just one silly agency who only wants middle class wealthy carers!

This is why we went with LA - you can still work and foster. We're not in a position where I can give up work and wait by the phone for a placement.
Why don't you find out about every agency's' policies?

Sharon, they asked to see my husbands P60 and that was it - didn't ask about anything beyond that. And we certainly don't have a years savings in the bank - would be nice if did!!

We were never asked about our savings-they just wanted to know if we could support ourselves if we didn't have a placement and no incomefrom fostering coming in.

We are with a LA though-don't know if it's different with an agency.............

Thanks folks, would be interesting to hear from soe folks who are with agencies.

Think I'll give Barnardos a phone and see what they say. That's the agency we feel would be best suited to us.

Our local authority is hopeless when it comes to organisation and support so not even considering going with them.

shaz298 our la is also a shambles (wonder if it's the same one!!) and we decided to foster with a neighbouring borough and it has worked out fine so far.

I am not saying that you should definitely foster with a la but it's worth taking a look at your neighbouring boroughs-if you are close to a border.:)
