Rapeseed oil in baby food

Whilst I was pregnant I read that homemade baby food was best made with some rapeseed oil. Since having the baby and getting to the stage where I want to start making her some food, I cannot find where on earth I found that information anymore.

Has anyone used rapeseed oil in baby food? If so, how much do you put in?

I hadn't heard that but it might make sense if the point is to help avoid allergies - along the same lines of eating local honey to tone down a reaction to pollen (oil seed rape is a notorious allergen).

I have some and use like olive oil when I do not want that taste. Rapeseed oil is blander imo.

That makes sense about using it to avoid allergies later on.
DD (16 months) and I have spent the past fortnight with runny noses as we live near lots of oil seed rape fields. Wish I'd heard that suggestion before!
I bet Waitrose would have it. They seem to have every other oil product known to man. I often use ground nut oil with DD,so I suppose at least she won't be allergic to those...

Completely love rapeseed oil - used it for years as its so much healthier for my kids and it's British! Can't lose!

It's becoming somewhat of a monoculture though isnt it. Wish it wasnt taking over quite so much arable land.

Bowbluebell Vegetable oil is made from rapeseed. Don't waste money on rapeseed oil! Manufacturers charge loads more for it. Also with the ground nut oil, it doesn't mean your DD will not be allergic as nuts are a different sort of allergy to pollen.

I disagree that you should just get any old veg oil. If you want to eat rapeseed oil or use it for baby food, make sure you go for a high-quality, cold-pressed variety like this one:

The Omega 3:6 ratio is actually better than olive oil. Interesting, I didn't realise that.
