Nutribullet - am I doing it wrong?

I got a nutribullet for Christmas and I was very excited to try it out, which I did for the first time this morning.

But - it really wasn't what I was expecting. The taste was all right but the texture was gross - like a powdery, grainy texture. Is that just what blended juice tastes like? I was hoping for a completely smooth juice like a supermarket "no bits" orange juice. Really worried it's been a big fat waste of £80.

I've tried blending for longer and adding more water but that just makes it seem very diluted and not very tasty. I was trying apples, carrots and satsumas. The texture was like that kind of powdery apple feeling you sometimes get.

Does anyone have any good recipes or ingredients that might avoid the grainy/powdery thing? I'm hoping to make green veggie stuff really - we just don't have any in the house now. Or am I just being unrealistic?

Thank you!

Bananas or avocado make it smoother but thicker. Apples make it grainy.

Oranges don't blend well as you are blending all the skins. Most juice places have a separate orange juicer.

We have a nutribullet. We don't use oranges.

Tastiest one is an avocado one. Watermelon, spinach, avocado, Apple, lime, mint, coconut water

A smoothie is never going to be the texture or thickness of a juice, I'm afraid, even with a commercial blender (I have a Froothie/Optimum).
I add 1 cup of fresh or bought juice to my smoothies so they aren't too thick.
Try 1 cup juice plus some strawberries, peach and pineapple, add 1 cup ice and blend. Add something green if you have to!
Tinned fruits give a smoother smoothie than fresh.

Thanks everyone. I think my expectations were unrealistic! Also it seems like I need to choose my ingredients more carefully. Will keep experimenting.
