Bought 2 on bargain yesterday, and now they're sitting in my fruit bowl looking at me threateningly...

"WHITE SAPOTE

1 cup (5 ounces): 191 calories, 47g carbs, zero protein, zero fat

Also known as custard apples, white sapotes have a superthin skin, greenish yellow to yellow. The flesh, nothing like an apple's, is a silky smooth, custardy combination of sweet bananas and papaya. Sapotes are relatively high in calories, especially for a fruit, so have one for dessert. A reasonable source of vitamin C and potassium, white sapotes are available fall through winter.

How to eat: Choose bruise-free fruit that yields slightly to gentle pressure. Peel, halve, and remove the pits and tiny seeds. Eat the flesh as is or puree it into fruit smoothies."

I've never even seen one (that I'm aware of anyway). Let me know if it's nice!

If its like the ones I used to have in Australia, cut it open and scoop out the flesh - don't eat the seeds.

Well at first I thought you meant something like a toffee or a chocolate apple and was imagining an apple dripping with custard and thought no wonder she's wondering how to eat it!

ummm, me & dd quite like it - sort of a gentle-tasting mango/papya I'd say. Maybe slightly custardy taste... pips are a beggar though...not an easy eating 'experience...'
