Best coffee cake and diabetic friendly cake recipes

I've got a birthday coming up and somewhat unwisely I've promised to bake cakes for the office rather than go to tesco in the morning.

I made a plan to do a coffee cake. I've never done one before as nobody (other than me) likes coffee in our household so before I go scouring the internet I thought I'd ask mumsnet for their favourite coffee cake recipes.

The other cake will ideally be diabetic-friendly. Does anyone have any good recipes for low-sugar or sugar substitute cakes?

For coffee cake, make an ordinary sponge and add a few walnuts and 1-2tbsp of Camp coffee essence (if it still exists).
