Dumplings and slow cookers

So - here I am experimenting with my new slow cooker... Beef Stew. Been cooking since 8.30 this morning(!)

I realise that dumplings will probably not work. Has anyone ever tried. I am guessing however that even if you can cook them in there, they won't be those nice crusty topped ones I love so much, and although I could decant and cook in the oven, it kinda defeats the object eh?

Ah well - anyone with any dumpling experience to share, please do...

Yes, well I know it's a dull question.

But anyone? (I know there's LOTS of you slow cooker-ey type people out there...)

Bung them in about 20 mins before you are ready to serve up and they should fluff up nicely mine allways do.

Does your slow cooker not have a high setting. As long as stew is just about simmering I don't see why dumplings wouldn't work.

Oh OK! Just a slow-cooker virgin

But the stew I made today was LOVELY...

OK - dumpling experiment for next time - I guess I will just miss the crunchy oven baked tops, but hey...

My slowcooker will also go on the stove top. So I just transfer it there 20 mins beforehand and add the dumplings.
