Just made bbc good food recipe, chicken liver and bacon pate. The recipe says cook so they brown nicely, but are still pink and squidgey on the inside. I've put in food processor and whizzed it all up, but it looks very pink and sloppy. It seems to be setting ok though, and does taste nice, will it be ok? I'm not going to kill anyone with the pinkness? We are all late 40s, 50 so no one should be pregnant!

I personally wouldn't touch it . They need to be cooked until they are brown and certainly not squidgey in the middle. The insides need to be really hot in order to kill the bacteria .. Sorry but I wouldn't serve it either far too risky.

Really. Oh shit, I think you are right. I've just yanked them out of the fridge and nuked them until hot. It's hard to know what they will taste like until they are cool again. It's going to be awful isn't it? Thinking of shooting off to Tescos and buying a starter. Argh! At least it wasn't too expensive.

It is quite cheffy to serve up chicken livers while still pink in the middle. If they were still oozing blood then I would say they were underdone. To be fully cooked all the way through they would be quite hard.

So bun baker, do I serve the ruddy things?. Dh is not here to be my guinea pig. Do I go and buy a couple of melons and Parma ham s a fail safe? Dinner is for 7. Everyone is bringing a dish, I don't want to cock up the starter. Wish I had stuck to mushroom soup. I went for cheapish starters, as I'm also taking the cheeses, which were quite pricey.

Having just read this, I would err on the side of caution and not serve undercooked chicken livers to your guests.

Wow that is scary reading. Even though it's cooked now, I'm not sure. Also worried because my dad dipped his finger in for a taste!

I serve them pink, but not bloody, I didn't know you weren't supposed to

Neither did I. I have eaten pink chicken livers before, but I would thoroughly cook them now. Having already suffered from campylobacter I wouldn't want to risk it again.

Well we all ate it, we are all still alive, and everyone liked it.
