Crap... That's the wrong recipe. The one I meant is in the Nigella Express cookbook. Lamb Keema and not the Biryani version.

Ah yes, keema, and I have the nigella book, so will look it up, thanks! Curried shepherds pie sounds delish too, maybe I'll buy another packet when I go shopping so I can do both ??

THIS is the recipe I use for the shepherd's pie, it's very popular with friends and family and you can adjust the spices to your personal taste.

I have Mace in the cupboard, I think I bought it specially for a recipe, but I admit I like the instruction 'a blade of mace' makes me smile
I also admit to having spices just because that I've yet to use.

everton I'm the same, there's a tin of ghee that DH bought yonks back, but it's never been opened.
No rosewater though.

We used ghee for one recipe, found it too rich and now have had a partially used tin of the stuff taking up too much space in our fridge for over a year...

Shepherd's pie is excellent with lamb mince. I add chopped swede, carrot and onion to the mince stew bit.

Well, not the ghee, but there's mace and rosewater.

If I have lamb mince, it's usually so I can have moussaka. I like moussaka.
