meals that EVERYONE likes?

We eat mostly veggie with the occasional meat thrown in. I'm having a bother finding meals that husband (eats anything), 3 yr old ds (won't eat anything "whirly curly" ie. casseroles and other mixed up dishes) and 1 yr old dd (nothing in big pieces or chewy thank you!)will all eat.

Either somebody doesn't eat their tea(v. frustrating when you're cooking) or we end up eating pasta or potato and veg type dinners - again!

What meals go down well with all the family in your house?

My family is a nightmare when it comes to food - the only things that we will all eat are fish and chips and pizza!!

Hardly healthy!!

Other than that I cook variations for everyone!

everyone likes roast chicken, but I can see how it would fox a 'nothing chewy' 1yo

What about risotto? It's a good meal in a dish, and might be good for your 1 year old. Can add any more adult strong flavours right at the end and keep the child portions separate. You can probably also sneak plenty of goodness into the stock you use for it: carrots, celery etc without any fussy children being any the wiser.

Hmmm,my feeling is that by indulging their foibles, you reduce their repertoire even more.

It's my way or the highway chez Moondog!

I think you're right Moondog, but it's still nice to find dishes that everyone likes, so that sitting down to the meal can be a pleasant experience for all and not a struggle to get certain family members to eat. Just for those days when you want an easy time of it! Also I think you do have to make allowances for 1 year olds...

Another vote here for rissotto, my lot wolf it down, in fact on Wednesday I didn't make enough and my 1 year old and 3 year old were whinging for more. I agree with the previous poster it is nice to have a meal that you know everyone will eat and it will be a nice experience, but also take the 'well, there isn't anything else' appraoch.

Veggie sausage, mash and vege
-Lentil soup and bread
-Anything chinesey style - eg: tofu and vege stir fry with rice; tofu noodle soup
-Omelettes and salad
-Jacket potatoes and "pickies" like houmus, cheese etc
-Roast dinner (but dd1 and I have it all bar the meat
-various veggie curries

Other than that it's a struggle - I'm veggie; dd2 and hubby are carnivores but will eat just about anything; dd1 not veggie but doesn't eat much meat, or cheese, or eggs, so a pain!!!
