Plum vodka

we have millions of delicious plums so I am going to make some plum vodka for a few mates at Xmas. The recipe I have found on the beeb says put vodka plums and sugar in a pan and bring to boil then simmer for a few mins - won't this burn the alcohol away?

I make plum gin

1lb Plums to 1lb sugar to 1 bottle of gin

pierce the plums throw them all in the glass jar with the other stuff & seal

Shake every day until the sugar has dissolved leave for 3m min then bottle

Make sure it never comes in to contact with metal

We've made raspberry vodka and damson gin in the past and , like Katymac, just thrown it all in together (piercing the damsons), shaking daily.
Never come across a recipe thats advised heating it up.
