I need ideas for Canadian food

my son has to take in a dish of food to school for an international buffet. His city is Toronto but the dish can either be specific to the city or country. The school can't keep food warm - which doesn't help my idea of maple syrup pancakes with canadian bacon! Apparently poutine (french fries with curd cheese and gravy is often thought of as the national dish but I couldn't keep that warm either).

So any ideas? We can take in a starter, main or dessert. thanks

tourtiere? (ie a meat pie from Quebec)

Tourtiere recipe

It it better warm but can be eaten cold. Serve with a mild chili sauce or tomato sauce.

As it is a young country made up largely of immigrants, Canada doesn't really have many national dishes...

What about Nanaimo bars? here
Or beaver tails here
I've never had either, just found them via google for you so I hope they're good

How about these? Milk Chocolate Chip Maple Syrup Glazed Bacon Cookies!

I can't vouch for whether they're edible good or not, I've never made them! I just stumbled across the recipe. :)

ooh I'll go look at all the links. That one you suggest Spirael looks intriguing. And Zzzz no nuts allowed sadly

I think the tourtiere recipe might win. The Nanaimo bars have nuts sadly. The beaver tails look delicious but a faff to make. I think the kids would like those best some how.....

cretons
Never tried it though, but have tried poutine, though that won't work for you.

How about making fudge with maple syrup? It was everywhere when we were in Toronto last year.

My mum makes Nanaimo bars with seeds instead of nuts as my son has a nut allergy. Totally delicious.

Also consider blueberry muffins, or cinnamon swirls.
