I bought some eggs in Sainsburys today and when I put them in the fridge I noticed they didn't have the lion mark on them. I thought all eggs had to have that on now to prove they were free from salmonella etc (post Edwina Currie..). I usually buy Sainsburys own and they have the lion mark, but I bought different ones today as someone had dropped a box on the floor by the Sainsburys ones and the poor shop cleaner was trying to clear it all up!
Anyway, are they safe to give to my 3 year old for his breakfast? (we stayed in a B&B on a farm once and DH and I had gorgeous freshly laid eggs for breakfast, but the landlady pointed out they didn't have the mark so we didn't give them to our DS).
Can anyone shed any light on this??? Thanks
