High Fibre Food for 9Months Old

On doctors order 9 month old needs to have high fibre food.

Can anyone suggest anything need to provide 2 meals a day have normal household ingrediants.

Why?
Oats would be one of the best things (porridge)
Soluble fibre too which would be less abrasive on a little stomach.
Have you not had more guidance than this? I gather it is dangerous to give too much fibre to small children (ie too much bulk and not enough calories and also interferes with iron absorpion.)

I would just aim for food that is as umprocessed as possible and lots of fruit and veg.

Am giving lots of fruit and veg as child has not had any or really not alot for all his little life.

childhas weetabix for breakfast and try to give lots of beans etc.

Why has the doctor recommended high fibre? As MD says, it can interfere with absorption of necessary nutrients - am a bit surprised this has been recommended for a 9-month-old.

Avoid wholewheat products, the fibre has an irritating effect on the gut and can cause nasty tummy ache. Also remember not to give too much fibre as, as moondog says, it can interfere with digestion and calorie intake.

I'd be really cautious about your doctor's advice. Is your ds constipated? Mine suffered dreadfully from constipation at that age and the recommendation was to increase fibre, but my instinct was that we already had plenty of fibre in our diets and that maybe it was too much for him. One of the things I did was to stop giving ds wholemeal bread and give him white instead (but decent stuff, not the ghastly sliced), and it had an excellent effect.

Oat-based foods provide the best fibre. For porridge use real oats, not Ready Brek.

Figs, prunes, apricots (fresh or dried) and tomatoes all help with pooing, as does olive oil. Use olive oil in your cooking, and add it raw to food - not just salad, but any savoury dish.

Father is a young un and he has had digestional track cancers which started as a baby. Son has been advised lots of fibre as does not go enough. Other than that cant provide alot of info as confidential.

Give him plenty of plain water to drink, or herb tea (fennel and chamomile are best) or very dilute juice. Don't bother using juice as a source of fibre. It's important not to take his appetite for food away by filling up on sweet drink.

Avoid avoid avoid bran-type fibre. I really can't stress that enough. It's good for adults but not for children.
