what is Cream of Tartar ?

Recipe I was doing today said I needed it but I don't know what it is.

it's made from chopped gerkins and mayonnaise, I think.

It's a raising agent, usually used in combination with bicarbonate of soda to make baking powder.

Cream of Tartar is a powder.

WWB is correct! Much easier to use baking powder IMO though!

Lives in baking section of sainsburys. Used for making sweets, and possibly some icing IIRC. Principal use in this house is for making playdough (makes it less sticky, I think).

yes, bicarb + cream of tarter = baking powder!

i THINK the ratio is 2:1 but i cant remember what u have 2 or 1 of lol!

ah ok i see. I was making savoury scones and it said to include it. I did look in baking bit but must have missed it.
