Just that really, has anyone seen it? Looking for a film for 8 and 9 year olds

Absolutely brilliant. It deservedly won an Oscar. Might be a teeny tiny bit scary for an 8 yr old, but we have shown it at primary film club with no complaints. They tend to be 8-11 yr olds.

A firm family favourite in our house!

It's wonderful, magical, a wee bit scary, but not too much.
One thing, it's a gateway film. Be prepared for all things miyaki (sp, sorry), from here it's a short step to your house being overrun with totoros.

I hate it when a film gets "oversold" - but this is my favourite film, partly because I stumbled across it.

I have an old seven year old but she is still a tad young I think I'm holding out til she's eight Grin

I am another who just came across this while flicking grouch channels. I am not a fan of anime or similar so i have no idea why i stopped flicking but I was totally gripped and have watched it several times since.

I would agree that a sensitive 8yo might be a bit scared

It's magical. Howl's Moving Castle might be a bit less scary. Or Ponyo. But I think my little sister watched it at about 8 and she was usually easily scared.
