Fasting / 5:2 diet

16:8 - who else is doing this?

I've started today. I think it will help me with a few issues. I'm hoping I'll lose weight obviously but I'm also hoping it will free up some mindspace and time where I normally think about and pick at food.

I'd love to chat with anyone else who has done or is doing this.

lots of people on the main thread use 16:8 during the week
but you'll only lose weight with it if you control your total intake ...

Yes, you won't lose weight without a weekly calorie deficit.
For most folk, 5:2 gives 3000 cals deficit for 1lb loss weekly.
We think there are health benefits to fasting though, so 16:8 would bring that.

I've reviewed and have decided to give fast 5 a go instead (or 19:5)
My eating window is from 2 to 7. I think this will suit me.
I hear what you're saying about the calorie deficit. I'm hoping that having a lunch of soup, snack of fruit and yoghurt and a normal dinner will create that deficit and the fasting will bring the health benefits along with reduced cravings.

I combine Fast 5 with 5:2. It would be interesting to see how another Fast5er is doing, even without FDs.

What is the difference between 16/8 and fastfive?

Is it just the window size?

I am combining 5:2 with 16:8 on NFD just to try and curb my NFD calories.

I know I will be tempted to binge. Holding off till 12pm just gives me some thinking time and stops me jumping straight in

Fast5 is 19:5, only eating within 5-hour window. I normally have a huge lunch, then a mini-meal or protein shake just before end of window

16:8 has an 8-hour eating window window

I like the sound of fast 5, just to try something different as I feel 5:2 on its own is now more of a maintenance tool than a weightloss tool because I have a larger appetite than my TDEE, plus I've recently noticed reduced appetite in the evenings.

I'm going to discuss this on the main thread. kiteattack thanks for starting this thread, let us know how you get on...come join the main thread, its not just for 5:2, that's the usual way people become interested in this sort of thing because it sounds so do-able.
