Survived my first fast day (and actually quite enjoyed - in a weird way). Thanks for your ideas! Went with a banana and a slice of un-buttered malt loaf for breakfast and grilled tofu with a ton of veg for tea. Wanted to keep it simple but am hoping to be more ambitious with my cooking next time and have found some good ideas on the recipe thread. Thanks again!
On fast days, I don't eat anything till my evening meal because eating even a little makes me super hungry for the rest of the days. Other people have breakfast or lunch. You have to find what works for you. On NFDs, I tend to go down the GI diet route, little and often but I am trying to change that.
Hanging around to be nosey. I haven't tried 5:2 yet but baked tofu won't have many calories if you go easy on the oil, and it is bloomin' gorgeous. I sprinkle it with five spice powder and sesame seeds before baking.
Vege soups can be v low in calories.
You could do various salsas too, to have with crudites.
notadoctor I'm vegan, and I've been IFing for about 16 months - and collecting lots of <500 calorie meals along the way which I've posted on my blog. Just put 5:2 diet in the search box and they'll all come up.
Also, since the Horizon programme last year, posters have been putting their favourite recipes in a dedicated 5:2 thread. Lots of veggie recipes in there!
Tofu stir fry with loads of veg for a fast day dinner, also homemade soups or carefully chosen ready made ones eg Asda carrot and coriander, New York skinny butternut from Tesco. Stay away from the fruit and grains on fast days. Other days, eat your normal foods but first work out your TDEE and aim for that. My Fitness Pal app/website is useful for keeping track of calorie intake if you want to, but plenty of people lose on 5:2 without calorie counting.
I'm a veggie and I'm just about to start 5:2. Am looking for meal ideas - recipes but also suggestions/ tips on meal vs snack patterns. Lots of the websites I've looked at are quite meat/ fish based. I don't really eat meat substitutes (Quorn etc) but I eat everything else!
