When do you look for a new activity / new music teacher?

I'm a piano teacher and in the process of moving areas. I'm thinking of placing an ad in a local magazine to start getting some students but was wondering when might be the best time to do this.

When do you start thinking about what activities your DCs will be doing from September?

When would you start thinking about your DCs taking up an instrument?

Should I place the ad asap or should I wait until next half term? Or the summer holidays?

Many thanks for any help and advice!

DH teaches, and he finds that he tends to have pupils drop out over the summer term, as they do more after-school athletics/cricket etc and the older ones doing GCSE's & A-levels, so they put their music lessons on the back-burner for a while.

Doesn't affect adults though, and for finding new adult pupils there's no time like the present!

I found DDs piano teacher around August time with a September start. It only feels natural as the new school year starts to look at what activities she may like to pick up.

Now that piano is a constant in her life we are going to the local music school open day held in July to see if she would like to pick up another instrument.

Most of my friends are starting to look for new activities over the summer holidays as the new school year approaches.

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I won't forget the adult market as that could be perfect if they can do day time lessons. I think maybe though I will wait to advertise in July or August to also pick up on the impending new school year. Fingers crossed!
