Beavers Uniform - what size?

DD1 has been on the waiting list for ages and just got a place Smile. She's 8 in summer so almost Cubs age, but if we don't take the Beavers place she'll go the back of the list again for Cubs. So I need to kit her out for Beavers as cheaply as possible, and given that she's only going to wear the uniform for a few months it doesn't need growing room!

What size tops would you go for, for an average size year 3 girl, 128cm tall? We're looking on eBay etc so can't really try on.

What about going into John Lewis (or wherever else sells beavers uniform) and just trying it on?

Can you ask the leader if there's anyone leaving that can give you a t-shirt? I got our tshirt that way. The trousers are the same for cubs as for Beavers I believe if you do choose to get them (everyone uses school trousers here though). I really wouldn't buy a second hand jumper as IMO they are bad quality and ours quickly went bobbly and it would have holes where other people's badges had been picked off.

Well yes, that would be the obvious answer Grin but if I can avoid dragging three kids through after-school/Saturday traffic to the shopping centre, I will!!

I've just tried her brother' s old Cubs sweatshirt (32) on her and it looks massive, so I'm guessing she's a 28 or 30...

petal I agree the trousers are probably worth buying new if she can keep them for Cubs.

Do you really think the sweatshirt needs to be new? She'll wear it 8 or 9 times max before summer, then move up. It seems such a waste of money Sad

I agree it sounds a waste of money but I really can't see how you could get the badges off without leaving holes. I know a lot of parents glue them on too! I also can't imagine people wanting to part with one that had all their kid's badges on.

You could ask if they would just let her have a t-shirt? You might get lucky on ebay if some one else had to join late, or they started and didn't like it, in which case great!

I use for ds cheap blue trousers from M&S, they came in a 2 pack one navy, one beige for about 10.

I would get a second hand sweatshirt. Loads have them at ds' pack, admittedly mostly from older brothers but not exclusively. Try asking round among anyone who turned 8 just before Easter in the hope they've moved up to cubs and not passed on their uniform yet.

But I would go and discuss it with the leaders, they may say something along the lines of as long as she can borrow one for her promise not to worry. They're a lot less strict on uniform than when I was little.
