.....anyone else booking up whole weekends of swimming at the moment? The rugby season has just closed, so we thought we'd get weekends back- perhaps not!

However, DS is still loving it so let's enjoy it while it lasts...or something like that!

we are in the same boat. Rugby season is nearly done, but we are in the prime swim league season, plus meets to get their times for next season's counties....I spend my life by the pool.

Ah...this is our first year of competitive swimming. DS started in January. So, meet today for county times I think (how does that relate to county qualifying meets? Got an email telling us DS had got the right time for that, but we aren't sure what that meet is for).

Next week is a gala.

Sorry about the questions, but I know very little about swimming- I can barely do 2 lengths!

Queen - each county has its own Championship once a year. They will mostly have taken place already so times achieved now will count towards next year. Each event has a qualifying time depending upon age and sex. Well done to your DS if he has already achieved one. Here is a link to the Regions so you can click through to your county for info.

My DD started galas last September and I have spent the winter hot and sweaty sitting poolside and we have another couple coming up before Summer

Thank you for your help. Competitive swimming is a whole new world to us!

I did a bit more searching when I realised that I should really know a bit more about it all. DS has got his development championship times (which I know are not as fast, but hey, I'm still very impressed!). He got another one yesterday and was 1.02 sec off a county champ time. As he's only been training for 4 months I think that's pretty good.

You'll soon get into the swing of things - just ask lots of questions, other parents / coaches / club volunteers (meet secretaries, team managers) will keep you right.
