Im not talking a sniffle btw. I have had emergency surgery and spent 3 days in hospital and a week or more in bed. This was how i spent my annual leave and our policy allows us to ring in sick on annual leave and reclaim if nec. Ive always poo pooed people who do this because if myself or dc are ill when im off usually i think thank goodness i was off ! <br /> This time im wondering if i should avtually claim sickness not annual leave so i can have that week again next month but feel somehow like its taking advantage ?
Just out of interest wwyd ?

I'd claim the leave, no quibbles.

Hope you're feeling better now!

Yes you can and should! BUT you have to have told your employer you were ill whilst on hols & follow the same absence procedure as if you had been in work!

Depends on your contract of employment. You seem to think you can do so. If you can then why not?

Quite often you can get it back if you were ill before the booked holiday leave started. If you start being ill when already on annual leave then often hard luck.

for me... if it was an option with my current employer... I probably would because they haven't exactly bent over backwards to make my working life easier, so I feel that I should take all the benefits they offer. And I work in a huge organisation so my work is easily covered.

If it was a smaller company and I felt less of a cog in a giant wheel, then I probably wouldn't.
