Can HR people give me some advice for my DB please?

My DB has been employed on a permanent contract for the last 6 months. His predecessor moved on to manage another outlet the company had opened and so my DB was to manage this one.

On Friday, he received a call to say that the company had closed the other outlet and so the manager from there was coming back and DB was therefore out of a job!

Can they do this? Should he seek legal advice? Or, because he has been employed less than a year, are they able to do this?

Any advice appreciated please, feel so for him especially with it coming up to Christmas.

TIA

Yes, as far as I know they can.

How sad for your brother and his family. Tell him to concentrate on getting a good reference so he can find another job.

Unfortunately as he has been employed for less than a year they can do this as he has no protection against wrongful dismissal. If he had been employed more than a year he would have had a case.

Its crap but unfortunately your DB will just have to put this behind him.

thought as much. Thank you both for your replies.

He's going to the Jobcentre today so hopefully will be able to sign on or something.
