Could someone please explain what working termtime only would entail?

Hi, I really hope that someone could shed some light on this for me

I currently work 10 hours a week in a school cleaning. Now during the school hols we are expected to come in in the morning as opposed to the afternoons (after school) we normally do - doing our holiday hours in a couple of days and then having x many days off

Now my mum has the kids after school for two hours for me and my mil normally has them in the holidays, but now she is saying that she just doesn't feel upto to doing it

It's not worth me paying nursery fees as I would have no wage left at the end of it and would probably struggle to getthem a place just for a couple of days in the holidays.

Normally I try and take all my holidays (4weeks) in the holidays and have worked around it with mil or taken it unpaid, but the school are now starting to say that maybe I should work termtime only

Would I get holiday if I did termtime only?
Would I get pro rata'd holiday pay?
Would I still get sick pay

I feel that if I agreed to do term time only that I may miss out - I can;t afford to take every holiday unpaid and can sometimes get in to work

Should they have to let me do my normal hours even if no hours are specified on my contract?

My Mum works term time only....
She gets pro-rata holidays, and has an agreement like I believe most TTO's that her salary is divided into 12 chunks, instead of missing out on 1 salary during the school hols IYSWIM?
She still gets sick pay, bank holidays etc..(she is also P/t and works Weed/Thurs/Fri so gets bank holiday Mondays off in lieu at a later date.
She works for Ofsted- so an organisation very much geared for term time only stuff, another organisation might not be so accomodating, but employment rights should mean that you don't lose out I'd have thought.

thanks that helps!! I may have to discuss it with them about the holiday pay then - cos I think that they were pushing to NOT pay me any holiday pay

I work TTO - my wages are averaged out over the 12 months. I get holiday pay (pro rata) and sick pay. I also get bank holidays too.

fantastic that sounds like the best option then _ I don;t let anyone down in the hols but don;t end up losing all my pay

does anyone know how I can work out how much holiday I may be entitled to?

Just so if I decide to go for it I can compare what they offer me to something

Also I have just googled holiday entitlement and it says that you are now entitled to a minimum of 5 weeks holidays - I have had nothing in the post to say that my holidays have increased!!

The 5 weeks include bank holidays so for places that already gave paid bank holidays off there is no difference.
