tax credits.......ahhhh

hello 1st timer here...any help would be great. i was working 21 hrs till i went sick in may last yr till my pay ran out at the end of 2008 resulting in me having to claim employment support allowance (whilst my job is kept open. id kept tc up to date about my situation now they tell me i owe them £1350, has anyone any idea how much they'll tk back weekly or mthly...my other half also wrks ft& we have 2 school age kids

How much tax credits do you get now ? I had an overpayment of 900 which they aimed to claim back across the next year , you receive 13 payments in a year so mine was reduced by approx 70 per mnth.

working on that then if they want to recover it from your next years claim then it would reduce your payments by approx £100 per mnth.
If you feel this amount is to high then you can appeal and suggest a longer repayment period.
Its all done on total earnings for the year from what you initially gave them at the start of the claim but that would of been based upon earnings for 07/08 are the earnings for 08/09 similar or reduced ? you may find that if the earnings for 08/09 are lower than the previous year then your award will be increased and it will cover the difference in the overpayment. Its all very confusing isn't it.
They shouldn't make a final decision on any over payments for 08/09 until the final earnings have been confirmed in April via a P60.
