Can anyone help me with my application form please (-:

Im applying for a job similar to mine, the person who will read the application knows me and I already work in a similar area for the same NHS trust.

Im just doing my personal spec on the application form but just dont know how to word things can anyone help me put the following into some sort of order:

  • I worked here for 3 months on my management placement as a student experiencing all 3 disciplines within the area
  • I didnt apply for a job there because I already had one where Im working now
  • I feel my current post had given me transferable skills
  • I want to leave my current post because I dont have a work life balance (he already knows this)
  • I think I will fit in as part of the team (I already know 90% of them)


I think thats it along with the usual about teamwork, using own initiative etc. I just dont know how to word all this, have been looking at it all day

read,read,readJD and person spec that is what they shortlist and Ax on

explicitly state your understanding and interest in area applied for - give examples

having worked in current post you now have transferable clinical skills to new area.cite examples,transition from new grad to staff nurse

i wouldn't overly emphasise WLB angle,but yes do acknowledge. if it is 9-5 clinics or M-F etc acknowledge this and why you'd be good nurse.guess i am saying don't wholly make it look like the only reason you are applying

cite your team working and organisational skills

CPD

read any recent relevant literature

do pre-interview visit

ask tons questions

The personal spec is pretty crap to be honest and I have covered it all (car, good comm skills, registered nurse, able to use equipment) its not the most comprehensive Ive seen.

Should I list the skills? (sounds a bit daft saying 'can assist with intubation', 'can recognise an anaesthetic drug when I see one', 'know what a bougie is' etc etc)

I have said I want to work there because I found it challenging and rewarding and that the teamwork and peer support was excellent.

It just sounds crap

I always use the person specification to order my supporting information addressing all of the essential and desirable criteria in the order they are listed. When i short list for job interviews (I work in the NHS) i always go through ticking off each point has been covered in the person spec.

I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for but if you follow the person spec it should allow you to cover all of the points you have listed. I have even used the heading in the person spec as headings in my supporting information to structure it. For example, qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience etc.

yes,be explicit about all skills as other candidates will.you must emphasise your KSF competencies. Big up your professional intetsrt in new area,as you have said

The things you have said sound really good. You can always expand on the person spec by adding in the knowledge and skills you have which you think are relevant.

If you cut and paste in what you have put already maybe we can help you beef it up a bit.

SM not done any KSF yet AFAIK, have only been qualified 4 months

does your current job not have any KSF outline?bottom line is Job spec is how we chose.all about ticks in boxes

I have no idea, I am currently enrolled on an NDP1 which has elements in it that are relevant to KSF.
But these arent explained and I have no idea what relevance they have to me. Indeed another reason why I want to leave, poor support!

I qualified as a registered adult nurse from XXX University in September 2008. Prior to my completion of the course I undertook my three month elective placement within the XXXX department at XXXX where I rotated between srcub, anaesthetics and recovery. On qualification I took a position as a staff nurse in the XXXX department where I am currently employed.

I felt my time spent in XXXX was both challenging and rewarding and I enjoyed the variety of working within the different specialities and also the responsibility of caring for patients on a one to one basis. The ability to identify individual patient needs in this area increased my job satisfaction.

I am an energetic, committed and focussed individual who is keen to learn and I would embrace the opportunity to further my knowledge of XXXXX. I feel that some of the skills I have learned within the XXXXXX department will be of benefit to me in this area.
I have excellent communication skills and felt that I integrated well with the XXXX team during my 3 month placement. Good communication skills have been imperative in my role as staff nurse in XXXX when liasing with other staff members, communicating with patients and their families and also with other professionals.
I feel that I am flexible in my approach to work and adaptable to change within the working environment.
I am able to work well as part of a team and enjoyed the essence of teamwork and peer support that I observed within the xxxx department. However I am also able to work alone using my own initiative, but can recognise my limitations and will ask for help when required.

I am aware of the shift structure and internal rotation within the xxxx department and feel this would suit my personal commitments.

ok but cannot intubate and have not done ALS. I am a 4 month post qualification band 5 nurse

That looks really good. Maybe you could add that you would be willing to undertake further study etc.

Questions at interview can be around how do they support new staff, what educational opportunities you will have, how do they develop staff. It is as much you interviewing them as it is them interviewing you.

I think you have done really well, as scottishmummy said it is all about the person spec, you need to show that you meet all of the essential criteria and is possible some of the desirable. I always make it easy for the person shortlisting by structuring my supporting information in a way which makes it easy for them to tick off the points. You wouldn't believe how many people don't do this or don't put any supporting information in their application at all.

Do you really not think its awful? I dont mind if you say, Im not that fragile honest Id rather know if its crap!

REally thanks loads youve made some fab points am gonna have another crack at it tomorrow and make sure I have things in the right order against the JD and PS

It's really not awful! Honestly the last few months i have done nothing but look at application forms and yours looks really good. The application is just your ticket to the interview and then you can sell yourself and show how much you want it. You'll be fine

I always give an example of something I've done to meet each item on the person specification. I've had wine so can't really comment on what you've put. I've got an interview on Friday - wish me luck!

don't forget all the day today stuff,you also
liaise with medics,ot,physio.
communication wityh pts,carers.
arranging shifts.
mentoring students and hca
good time keeping
understanding of accurate record keeping
talk about recent govt initiative and clinical governance.
any trust initiative
