Do I need a sick note?

My normal working days are Mon, Tue Wed. I have been ill since last Friday, so have missed all of this working week. I hope to be back on Monday, however.

Do I need a sick note? If so, how do I get one. Do I just go to my GP? Do I have to SEE a GP or will they just give me a note. I know that there won't be any appointments till late next week, by which time I'll be better.

I've never been off for more than an odd day before, so I don't know the rules about sick notes.

You're allowed 7 days before you need a sick note so you're OK if you go in Monday.
If you don't it may be best to get one just to cover yourself. You go to GP usually - you can try asking for one over the phone. You can get GP to backdate sicknote if you can't get appointment till late next week

You have to self-certify for the first 7 days, Iklboo - your gp will not give you a sick note until you have been off for at least 7 days and will give you a sick note for the 7days from the point you have requested it.
MrsMuddle - your company should be able to provide you with a self-cert form or you can pick one up at the GPs.

Thanks. I need to be better by Monday. I've got loads of Christmas shopping to do!
