Have you made a flexible working application and did you get what you wanted?

Mine is nothing like what I requested.

Asked to work Mon, Tues, Weds (my shifts are 10.30am to 10.30pm)

Was given Mon, tues weds every other week, alternating with Tues, Weds and Fri, plus one week of nights every 8 weeks, plus two weekends in 8 weeks

And I told them I couldn't get childcare for the end of the week...

Just wondered how many people actually got what they requested

Yes, I did. But then I work for a relatively family-friendly public sector organisation.

I got what I asked for - you can appeal the decision you know if you think their reasoning for not giving you what you asked for stinks

You should search for other threads on this topic as I think there was a lengthy one a while ago very similar.

The problem is that if you take all the 'good shifts' then soemone else has to take more of their fair share of 'bad' shifts (weekends, nights). Which simply isn't workable (and if it was your colleagues would hate you)

The solution on the last thread I think was that the person then offered to do much less popular shifts but to do them permanently and not on a rota, thus helping the organisation. They way they got flexi which they needed but the times were fixed so that they could then sort out permanent childcare solutions and not worry constantly about shifts.

TBH this is the only solution that I can see working when you are in an org that needs 24/7 shift coverage. The trick is to show how your request helps them, rather than just you....
