as I have to give 4 weeks notice - do I have to work the Tueday in 4 weeks time or can the Monday be my last day? Does that make sense?

Can't work it out and am avoiding my boss as she's trying to get me to change my mind.

Actually (if you work office days), Friday is your last day in the office and your employment ends on Sunday.

A week's notice handed in on a Friday will run until Thursday the following week (Friday to Friday is 8 days, not 7). You gave notice on a Monday, so it runs out four weeks later on the Sunday, but assuming you work Monday-Friday your last day will be the Friday. If you work weekends/shifts, it will be Sunday/whenever your last shift is scheduled up to and inclulding Sunday.

hi Ribena, nice to see you

Have to disagree this time... Stripey if you handed in your notice on the Tuesday, your last day of employment would be the Monday 4 weeks later. You wouldn't have to work the Tuesday.

Sorry- I thought stipeyknickers meant she had resigned on Monday (i.e. today) and was asking when the clock started to run. I've just realised I didn't read the title properly and only read the text of the post!

Stripey - What Flowery said! Your last day would be Monday, you don't have to work the Tuesday, because that would be four weeks and a day.

Flowery - yes, good to be back. Have had a frantic few months at work and have not been MN'ing at all!

Thanks. My boss collared me yesterday and said I'm owed a weeks holiday so not to go in next week at all - even better.
