Handing in my resignation...

Got offered a new job, need to hand in my resignation, what do i put, who do i address it to? when do i hand it in?

I havent had my offer in writing yet but been told its in the post, also the job is depending on security checks, do i wait until they have cleared me before resigning? or should i go ahead and just do it (im pretty sure security checks will be fine)

i also had to fill in a medical questionaire which they are going to take into consideration, i was off sick for 2 months last year with post natal anxiety, will this affect there decision to clear me as medically fit?

I would wait until you have an offer in writing before doing anything - the security checks I would be less bothered about unless you have skeletons

I had a similar situation with regard to having time off for post natal mental health issues, I was honest about it and it didn't affect my getting this job. I had an interview by phone with an occ health nurse but it was just a formality.

I would put something like

Dear (Immedieate Manager)

I am writing to give you one month's (or whatever) notice of my resignation.

Yours sincerely

It doesn't need to state any more than that unles you have any reasons for leaving that you want to make a point of.

Thanks, on the medical questionnare it asked how many days off i have had in the past year, i put 60 although it was only 40 i didnt calculate properly, i was going on months (30 days in a month, 2 months off) but actually it was only 40 working days that i had off. I did speak to someone from their HR and explained to her that i was off with post natal depression/anxiety and she seemed fine with it, but must admit it is still niggling at the back of my mind.

I will write something nice in my letter i think as i have really enjoyed working for my current employer, and they have been very good to me.

Have you agreed a start date with your new employers?

Have you checked your notice period with your current employers (and will they make you work it?)

I'd confirm both of those points. You need to hand your notice in so that your notice period is up just before you want to start your new job.

I'd def. wait for something in writing. I wouldn't worry about the medical thing. Your new employer will be looking to establish whether there is anything that could be an impediment to you doing your new job or (like my old employer) establishing 'good health' (I worked with some very nasty chemicals, so it was important to have a 'before' picture, IYSWIM!)

It's bound to niggle but tbh I haven't found it a problem.

It's good that you are leaving on good terms - how about "I'm writing to give you notice blah blah. I have enjoyed working for [company] but I feel the time has come for a fresh challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support during my time at [company]."

Also i am not sure who to address it too, there is my immediate manager but he is more like a team leader and never makes decisions on his own, always has to go to his boss and ask first if ever i need him to make a decision.

Should i just address it straight to his manager?
