How to get through notice period?

I handed my notice in yesterday
But now really don't want to be doing my job There has been lots of whispering and looks plus with the bosses being out of the office all afternoon the other girls have sat round chatting most of the afternoon. I can't even be bothered to let the bosses know this (is my place to do so being practice manager)
Give me some ideas to get me through the next 3 weeks as I can't afford to be off sick for it!!
Can't even look at mn from work to save my sanity as internet usage is being logged

Congratulations!

If you want to be helpful, write some comprehensive handover notes.
If not, erm...write a book? Plan a holiday or some other project. It'll go really quickly.

Thanks Flowery!
Am sooo looking forward to going part time!
I'm sure there is plenty I can do (filing for a start)
It just keeping me sane that worries me! Oh well I think I may become cold (well colder than I they already think I am) and close my office door permanantly for the next 3 weeks!

Oh it's awful isn't it? Admittedly, the couple of times I've had to do this it's been because of redundancy so I felt I had more leeway to not even pretend I was working (lots of internet surfing, long lunches etc), but it's still soul-destroying.
Just kill time as best you can & think onwards & upwards...

Good luck by the way.

Flowery,

If I was signed off sick during my notice period what could my employers do about pay etc?
Am seriously considering trying to get signed off with stress as the atmosphere is worse than ever
I think they now have a problem with the fact I am allowed to work my notice period when the last employee (who is a good friend of theirs) had to leave straight away

Depends what their sick pay policy is really. There's nothing saying you can't have SSP while serving your notice but if you get occupational sick pay over and above SSP they could put something in the policy saying it doesn't apply during your notice period - have a look and see.

You could go and see your GP and ask to be signed off with stress, just be careful about references etc, your employer may have to put about absence in a reference and 3 weeks or whatever signed off during your notice period might not look too fantastic to a new employer - something to think about anyway. I'd probably be inclined to stick it out, it's horrible but it's really no time at all in the scheme of things.

I'm a bit confused - who has a problem with you being 'allowed' to work your notice period? I am assuming this other person you're talking about was placed on gardening leave during his/her notice period or released immediately and paid his/her notice instead of working it? Why would anyone have a problem with you working your notice rather than being paid it?

Sorry if I'm being thick!

Thanks Flowery!
I'll probably try and stick it out but today felt like a real nightmare - or it could just be me being paranoid
They blame me for the other girl handing her notice in (you may recall previous posts where I was having problems with one particular colleague) I think she was bluffing and the directors accepted it (through no fault of her own as she was applying for jobs via work email and announcing to people she had handed her notice in) It was over an email I had sent to another colleague (in another building) which she took the wrong way (directors saw said email and didn't have a problem with it)
