Work

HELP - Feel like handing in notice - so fed up

I've worked in current job for 15 years.
Work 4 days, since having DD 5 years ago.
Pay & holidays are crap.

I've been really fed up with job for over a year, but things have got bad over last
couple of months. Should have left long time ago, but stuck in a rut.

I've lost all interest. Been making silly errors, but am honestly not that bothered.

Have finally started to look for other jobs, but today I had a particularly nasty run-in with boss and just feel like handing in my notice now.

I might get the sack before I get a chance to resign. Any advise PLEASE.

Honestly? Pull your socks up for a couple of months while looking for something else. I know you are not motivated but leaving on reasonable terms will help your reference and will also help you feel a bit less in a rut while you are looking for something else. In an interview situation you will also be able to talk honestly about your achievements rather than trying to cover up a lacklustre performance. I don't know what you do for a living but in lots of industries it pays not to burn your bridges as well.

That sounds a bit harsh, but it's the best advice I have other than start looking for something more suitable which you are doing.

Oh, and when looking for something else, it's easier to focus on it if you take a couple of odd days off annual leave and spend the day seriously looking, seeing agencies or whatever, rather than trying to do it with no time off while working.

Hope you find something soon, and I know it's difficult to motivate yourself when you are fed up and looking elsewhere, but do your best.

Thanks for advice flowerbeanbag. Yesterday was just a really bad day.

I'm going to continue applying for new jobs in meantime. I'm saving annual leave for any possible interviews (hopefully).

I work in the insurance industry & absolutely do not want to work in insurance again!!! Need a complete change.

Just need to put my head down, get on with it and hope I get new job sooner rather than later.

Good luck with finding something. One good thing is that you have identified an industry you definitely don't want to work in again. Often part of working life and having different jobs is finding out about different industries/types of working environment and gradually working out which suits you best.
