Dp was supposed to taken over his boss's window cleaning business April just gone, that his boss had been running it for the past 30 odd years. He want to retire and Dp takes over.

dp rang me this morning and said "im pulling out" i asked why? even though i knew why...his boss had been promising my dp solidly for the past 24 months that he will take over any day and they both shook hands after they agreed on a price for my dp to buy him out (we wud pay him so much amount for over the next 20 yrs). Since this year before the tax year - April - he lost his account books and took him forever to sort that out, then a couple weeks ago he said he wanted cash upfront!..(we are mega skint!) then he offered the job to someone else behind my Dps back who used to work for the windows but he and my dp doesnt get on, and now he wants to put our house as a collateral but our house is twice as much as the business is worth!!!! ive said to Dp "I wonder what next he will be coming up with, even though you both shook hands 24 months ago!!"

It had been stressing us out and making my DP depressed over it for the past 24m as we cannot move forward to make plans if we did take over the business.

So dp told his boss this morning and walked off to let him think (dp went back to work, his boss doesnt work as off sick for the past 15m).

Dp said he'll either go back to the original plan that they shook hands on or he is sticking to his guns and give the business to someone else instead, dp may get made redundant!! oh great!!!

SO COME ON GIRLS AND PASS ON YOUR GOOD VIBES AND FINGERS CROSS!!!!**

Post a link in the spirituality area and people will send good vibes and/or prayers your way. There is a good vibes request thread there.

Personally I believe in the power of prayer, but I can do "good vibes" too

I think your DP is right to stick to his guns, but it can't be easy for you both. If his boss won't honour the deal, then he has no honour and you're better off not dealing with him.

The whole situation sounds odd to me. If he is selling the business to your Partner make sure you get a Solicitor to advise him. Don't give the guy any money, buying a business is like buying a new home. Make sure your DP knows what he is getting in exchange for payments.

However if your DP is so fed up with it perhaps he should look elsewhere for a job. There are some really big cleaning companies now that would appreciate someone mature with experience. He might get a supervisory/team management type role. Much less stress than running his own business and the current situation.

Sending you good vibes!!!!!!

Doesn't the government do startup loans for new businesses? Maybe worth looking into. Also perhaps speak to a small business advisor, like they offer at the NatWest?

You may find that your DP could "poach" a lot of the business from the customers who know him. Maybe he should discretely enquire with a few customers he trusts??? I mean, a lot of what he is paying for is goodwill?

Biglips - If he is only on Minimum wage it is not worth him hanging onto this hope/dream of buying the round off this other guy.
I think he should go and talk to a few agencies and (believe it or not!) the job centre. I am sure he could find something for more money and less hastle than he is getting at the minute. If the other guy does not have him to run things for him it will go under then he can start up on his own (as said before Business Link is a great place to start).

My Company is desperate for good staff but can't get anyone, unfortunately we are in the wrong area otherwise I would tell you to get him to talk to them.

Good Luck!

If it's commercial windowcleaning, he'd be better off with an agency, then he can get regular work. If it's domestic, if he could afford to do a week's work for nothing, lots of people would pay the next time - our windowcleaner did this and he was so pleasant and did such a good job we hired him and have been paying him for the last three years. Good luck to you both.

hiya Everyone

good news that my partner and his workmate had a long talk today and they are gonna get in touch with the business link people to set up the business. Over the last couple of months, whilst he was getting ready for to take over his boss's business, he had found a few of jobs for himself to take on - mostly commercial jobs. So fingers cross and yes we will be skint for a while but i said "Weve been waiting for 24m so im surely we can hang on at least for a few more months!"

many thanks for your advices and the good vibes too xx

Then why doesn't he just subcontract to one of the big agencies -does he have his own gear? Have you any idea how hard it it to get a commercial windowcleaner????

Great news!!! Just a wee word of advice some Business Links have brill advisors and some are first class twits.

If you don't get on with the advisor, go and see another one. They should be able to help you draw up Business Plans and projections which you can take to a Bank to apply for a Business loan for equipment.

There is a lot of help out there, also if you are going to be involved as a partner, there are loads of woman in business groups etc.
