Paternity leave - not 5 day working week

Hi,

My husband works a 6-on, 3-off shift pattern. Depending on when our baby is born, if he takes 2 full weeks off work, this might work out at 8 days off, or 11 (for example if the baby is born on his first rest day, then he'll only get 8, but if it is born on his first day back then he'll get 11 days leave).

Does he still get the 2 calendar weeks and it's pot luck how many actual days leave he gets, and if so how does it work with his salary - does he just lose the number of days pay he has had off or is it 2 weeks regardless?

Hope someone can help, there is no HR where he works so we tend to try and find out ourselves!

He will get 2 calendar weeks off regardless of what he works in that week.

In terms of his pay, I would assume he will lose whatever he would have be rota'd to work that week, unless his pay is worked out in another way (annual divided equally in to monthly payments for example) and get the paternity pay on offer by his employer (generally statutory!)

Thanks. He does get paid monthy (so his salary divided by 12). Hope I go into labour on his day back! It does seem a little unfair if he doesn't get the equivalent of 2 weeks time off, but loses the salary.

He doesn't have to take paternity leave from the day the baby is born, so if it fits in better he can start it a few days later.
