I've been working for a small council for the last 3 years, and am due to go on maternity leave in 3 weeks time. Earlier this week a restructure was announced, and my job was one of a small number that are being significantly changed. I currently work full time 9-5, and have for the last year been working occassional evenings at committees.
The new role would involved me taking minutes at all committee meetings (there are approximately 40 a year). These would be included in my core hours and as committee meetings can last from half an hour to four hours, I'd have no certainty about my other hours or when I would get home on the evenings I would have to work.
I've been told that there is a three week consultation period, which would take me up to going on mat leave, but at the same time have pretty much been told that I have no choice about the evening hours.
I don't want to work evenings with a baby that I may still be breast feeding. my husband often has to work away, often overseas and I have no family living nearby. I'm not expecting my employer to care about my childcare arrangements, but surely some accommodation should be made for a new mum?
