Tax credits last yr or this?

We're just applying for tax credits as DH just finished fixed term contract in Jan, we will be on a greatly reduced income, can anyone advise will they just base the calculation on the past year or take our present situation into account?

they just said on the phone we would need to fill in the form them ring them and tell them of the change in circumstances but apart from that didn't advise further.

My dh was unemployed twice last year and both times tax credits declined us any money. We kept phoning about our change in circumstance because of unemployment as according to the entitlement calculator we should have been getting £113 a week. But we didn't get anything. Will be interesting to see how it changes this year.
